Ball and Arsenal F.C. Team Up for Global Recycling Day

March 16, 2023

In honor of Global Recycling Day on March 18, Ball and Arsenal Football Club teamed up to show that good things happen when you recycle.

As part of Premier League Inspires, an education program that aims to support children and young people in developing personal skills and positive attitudes to succeed in life, Ball and Arsenal F.C. challenged students at local schools near Emirates Stadium in London to create a social action project that promotes environmental sustainability.

The winners, five 12-year-old girls who attend a North London school, came up with a social media campaign to encourage recycling among the Arsenal fan base. They also developed an interactive game that educates players around what can and cannot be recycled.

As a reward for their efforts, Arsenal F.C. and Ball invited the winning team to Colney Training Centre for a tour and inside look at the team’s recycling program. What the students did not know was that they would be surprised with a visit from Arsenal stars Gabriel Martinelli, Eddie Nketiah and Matt Turner!

Throughout the day, the students challenged the Arsenal players with a series of questions that tested their knowledge of recycling, they practiced their football skills by dribbling around Ball aluminum cans, cups, and bottles and they even got the chance to shoot a goal on Arsenal mascot, Gunnersaurus.

This initiative is part of Ball’s partnership with Arsenal, which began in 2020 around the goal of enhancing the club’s sustainability practices and inspiring fans who visit Emirates Stadium to have important conversations about sustainability with their friends and family.

Aluminum beverage containers are the most recycled beverage package in the world, and nearly 75% of all aluminum ever produced is still in use today. In fact, aluminum cans, bottles and cups can be recycled and back on store shelves in about 60 days.

Through highlighting these local students’ efforts to promote environmental sustainability, Ball and Arsenal F.C. demonstrate that it is never too early to educate yourself, your friends, your family and your communities about the importance of recycling. Together, Ball and Arsenal strive to show the next generation of sustainability leaders the benefits of recycling and choosing aluminum.
