We were the first aluminum can manufacturer to adopt science-based emissions targets. Our 1.5°C-aligned target was approved in early 2020 by the Science Based Target Initiative, an international body that independently assesses and validates companies’ GHG-reduction goals. We will meet our 55 percent reduction in GHG target by switching to renewable energy and improving energy efficiency in manufacturing processes.
We accelerated our transformation in 2020 when leaders from across Ball’s global operations gathered to plan for, and commit to, the work of transitioning to a low-carbon economy. Our Climate Summit discussions focused on these key concepts:
- Identifying transformative process innovations
- Establishing a process for stewardship of the full lifecycle of aluminum
- Addressing Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions across our supply chain
