Reporting & KPIs
In June 2010 we issued our second sustainability report, covering the years 2008 and 2009.
You can download the 2010 report as well as our previous report from 2008. All sustainability data gathered globally can be accessed in the respective GRI Content Index files.

Reporting Concept
Our sustainability report is focused on Ball’s five sustainability priorities:
| Packaging | Energy | Water & Waste | Safety | Talent Management |
Our online reporting covers a variety of additional issues that were considered important but less significant by internal and external stakeholders.
Reporting Boundaries
Unless otherwise stated, we are reporting on data gathered globally from Ball majority-owned production operations which together account for more than 99 percent of the company’s worldwide production volume. For economic and social data as well as for data on energy and water, we also include our main administrative offices in the U.S. and in Germany in our reporting. Certain Social and Economic indicators denoted as “North America Packaging” do not include data on employees in Argentina, which account for less than 3 percent of our workforce.
Fourth quarter 2009 data from the four North American metal beverage packaging plants acquired in October 2009 is included.
Data Collection
In 2009, Ball started the installation of a new software solution for measuring the key sustainability metrics of every Ball plant. The system contributes to increased transparency, consistency, accuracy and traceability. Not all data for our 2010 sustainability report was fully compiled using this system, however, we are continuing to expand it’s capabilities within our operations.
Where additional explanations of indicator calculations are necessary, they are described in or next to the respective graphs and tables.
Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)
The indicators for our sustainability reporting are selected from the G3 Reporting Framework issued by GRI. This is the most widely accepted global standard for sustainability reporting.
Ball’s 2010 GRI content index includes information on all disclosures and indicators that we are reporting. Based on the sustainability materiality process we went through in 2009, we report on the GRI indicators that are of interest to our stakeholders. We are currently reporting on 68 out of 79 indicators (86 percent). We consider our reporting to fulfill Application Level B of the GRI Reporting Framework. This is the second highest of three categories for companies following the GRI Reporting Framework.
