Ball’s Monterrey Team Delivers Basic Necessities to Families Amid COVID-19

December 08, 2021

In times of uncertainty, food and cleaning supplies in a family’s home means they have one less thing to worry about. Ball’s Monterrey, Mexico, team have helped ensure families in their community have what they need to care for themselves.

“When COVID-19 first began to spread in Mexico, it quickly became apparent that some local communities would face greater levels of complication from the virus given their limited access to necessities like nutritious food and cleaning supplies,” said Monterrey Plant Manager Joe Gaysinsky. “We wanted to make a direct impact with people who clearly needed help.”

Through our COVID-19 Relief fund, the team partnered with a supplier to create packages of food and cleaning supplies for people who need it. Local trucks and taxis volunteered to help transport the packages to neighborhoods in Guadalupe, near our Monterrey plant. Delivering the packages to families’ homes helped ensure they don’t have to grocery shop and risk exposing others in the community to the virus. These coordinated deliveries occurred over the course of 3 days with a total of 2,673 bags of essential items distributed.

“The experience was amazing and heartbreaking at the same time,” said Uriel Sifuentes, Monterrey’s HR manager. “It made us feel good because we knew we had made a difference but there was also a sense of sadness, because we knew many more people still needed help.”

We established the Ball COVID-19 Relief fund in 2020, pledging $5 million to help support our communities affected by the pandemic. The global fund has empowered employees to play an important role in helping their communities address needs.
