As Vice President and General Manager of the Systems Engineering Solutions strategic business unit, Steve Smith is responsible for all aspects of Systems Engineering Solutions nationwide operations and contract performance.

Smith joined Ball in 2011 in the company's Washington Operations as Director of Space Control and Special Missions. He transitioned in 2012 to become Director of Military Space for the National Defense business unit. In 2015, Steve became Director of Programs for the Systems Engineering Solutions where he directed programs executing on Ball's long history of work for the US Air Force, National Geospatial Intelligence Agency and other customers on protecting space and airborne systems from cyber physical system threats. Ball has a rich
heritage in developing systems and software as well as providing outstanding people that analyze intelligence data and create actionable products for the warfighter and decision makers.

Smith retired as a Colonel from the United States Air Force in 2011 after serving 24 years in a variety of space and intelligence-related assignments. From 2009 until his retirement, Steve was Commander of the Advanced Capabilities Group at the Space and Missiles Systems Center (SMC/SY), Los Angeles Air Force Base, California.

Smith holds a M.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder and a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from Virginia Tech. His awards include the Collaborative Leadership Award from the Director of National Intelligence, the Superior Service Medal from the National Reconnaissance Office and the Legion of Merit from the U.S. Air Force.
